G8 Commitment for a Dementia Cure by 2025

Incontinence UK were pleased to hear that the leading nations at the G8 London Dementia Summit have committed to developing a cure or treatment for dementia by 2025.  This is encouraging news as dementia is a slow, cruel and distressing disease which currently affects up to 44 million people around the world and by 2050 this is predicted to grow to a staggering 135 million. To support this ambition; health ministers around the world will significantly increase funding for research and the UK has committed to double is annual research funding to £132 million by 2025.
Dementia is heading towards being the biggest health and care problem of a generation and one of the side effects of dementia (especially as the condition progresses) is patients unfortunately having difficulties with using the toilet and incontinence.  This causes distress for patients and people around them. If you or a family member are struggling with dementia then we highly recommend visiting the Alzheimer's Society website as it has lots of useful information including factsheets on dementia and how to live with dementia and incontinence.  For more information visit http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/ BHTABest wishes Incontinence UK Team www.incontinenceuk.co.uk 0800 068 3625
