Disabled Toilets: What is a Radar Key?

A radar key is a large, silver coloured key that opens more than 9,000 accessible toilets in the UK. You will have seen these toilets in public areas, supermarkets, pubs or restaurants. Disabled people's toilets are big, private and less likely to be occupied than regular-sized ones. As a result they can sometimes be open to misuse by the general public. Part of their purpose is that they don't get used too often and so remain cleaner for longer. Like any public convenience, accessible loos can end up in bad condition if used too many times between cleans. The National Key Scheme (NKS or RADAR) offers disabled people independent access to locked public toilets around the country. Toilets fitted with National Key Scheme (RADAR) locks can now be found in shopping centres, pubs, cafés, department stores, bus and train stations and many other locations in most parts of the country. Radar keys will open these toilets. If you are long term disability and classified as disabled you are eligible to buy a radar key.  We sell radar keys in our sister website; More Than Mobility retail stores.  For more information on how to purchase a key please visit www.morethanmobility.com or call us on 0800 068 3625.
