This week Incontinence UK are celebrating Carers Week!

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. Up and down the UK there are 6.5 million people caring unpaid for an ill, frail or disabled family member or friend. These people are called carers but they would probably say that they are just being a husband, a wife, a mum, a dad, a son, a daughter, a friend or a good neighbour. Caring is something that will affect each and every one of us. The statistics show three out of five of us will become carers at some point in our lives. This year the focus is on building carer friendly communities. Communities that support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own. When a community is carer friendly, every corner – from the hospital, workplace, primary school, to leisure services and beyond – will be geared towards addressing the needs of carers. There are many ways to get involved in Carers Week. You could: •           Plan or attend an event •           Get involved with local Carers Week activities •           Get active on social media So far nearly 2,000 organisations, groups and individuals have signed up to take part in Carers Week, including local authorities, carers groups, NHS trusts, charities, GP practices, individuals and more. Thousands of events and activities will be taking place throughout the UK between Monday 8 and Sunday 14 June for Carers Week to recognise, support and celebrate carers.
