9 April 2015

April is
Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and
Incontinence UK has been strong supporters of this campaign for many years. Bowel cancer also known as colorectal cancer or colon cancer is any cancer that affects the colon (large bowel) and rectum (back passage). It usually grows very slowly over a period of up to 10 years, before it starts to affect other parts of the body. Bowel Cancer UK states "We have had enough of the misery caused by this appalling disease. So we are re-doubling our efforts and determination to lead the change need to STOP people dying of bowel cancer."
Bowel Cancer UK has a vast directory of
information and advice which includes eating and lifestyle habits. They stress a diet that is low in fruits and vegetables and is high in red/processed meat and smoking and alcohol, may also increase the risk of developing the disease. They state it is critical for people to increase the intake of fish, bread and fruit and decrease the sugar and red processed meat intake.
