World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Day: Thursday 19th May

Worldwide, five million people live with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, conditions known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).    In the UK that figure is over 300,000 people and growing. World IBD Day (#WorldIBDday) is marked on the 19th May each year with the aim to improve the lives of IBD sufferers.  If you, or someone you care about, suffers from Crohn’s DiseaseUlcerative Colitis or another form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, you know better than anyone how important it is to get the right diagnosis, treatment and support. This year’s focus is all about the importance of Specialist IBD Nurses who make such a big difference to patient’s lives. All IBD patients, and their loved ones, should have access to a Specialist Nurse who understands their needs and can provide the right kind of support when they most need it.  Sadly though, not all patients can get help from a Specialist IBD Nurse and six out of ten IBD services across the UK don’t have enough Specialist Nurses to give the best quality care that all patients deserve. This isn’t good enough. World IBD Day is our chance to change this. Together we are stronger so let’s join forces, make some noise and call for all patients to have access to a Specialist IBD Nurse. Also Go Purple on 19th May!  Purple is the new black and ask friends and family to wear purple this Thursday. Best Wishes Incontinence UK Team www.incontinenceuk.co.uk
