Show Support For Dying Matters Awareness Week!

Dying Matters Awareness Week (9th – 15th May) is an unparalleled opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on the national agenda. Last year, members held more than 500 events across England and Wales and we hope in 2016, with your help, the message will spread even wider. Dying Matters is a coalition of 32,000 members (set up by the National Council for Palliative Care) across England and Wales which aims to help people talk more openly about dying, death and bereavement, and to make plans for the end of life. The Big Conversation Join The Big Conversation for this week’s Dying Matters Awareness Week.  During the week we are encouraging the public to have a Big Conversation with loved one about what they want for the end of their lives. We are also encouraging people to take five simple steps to make their end of life experience better, both for them and for their loved ones:
  • Write your will
  • Record your funeral wishes
  • Plan your future care and support
  • Consider registering as an organ donor
  • Tell your loved ones your wishes
There are many other ways you can promote and support Dying Matters Awareness Week. Here are just a few of them:
  • Follow Dying Matters on TwitterFacebookLinkedInYouTube and Pinterest.
  • Tweet about it, always including the hashtag #BigConversation.
  • Join in the #BigConversation on Twitter. Between 1-2pm GMT every day of Awareness Week we will be hosting a Tweet chat on a variety of topics relating to dying, death and bereavement - and we'd love you to join in. Find out more
Since the Dying Matters Coalition was set up in 2009, they have created a wide range of resources to help people start conversations about dying, death and bereavement; from DVDs, posters and leaflets through to pens, postcards and balloons. A host of different organisations including hospices, hospitals, care homes, community centres, financial advisers and funeral directors have all used them to successfully raise awareness in their area.  To get access to this information and resources you can download them or order them online.
